  • The SIUC Counseling Center is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS).
  • The professional staff of the SIUC Counseling Center is licensed as psychologists in the Sate of Illinois.
  • The SIUC Counseling Center has the sixth oldest accredited university counseling center Pre-doctoral Internship Program in Psychology in the nation.  The American Psychological Association has fully accredited the internship program since 1974.

  • 1 out of every 12 SIUC students sought counseling at the SIUC Counseling Center during the 2006-2007 academic year
  • Eighty-seven percent of students who sought counseling Spring, 2007 endorsed strongly agree or agree to the following statements:
    • I gained a greater understanding of my own role in creating or maintaining my problems
    • I learned one or more strategies to solve or cope with problems
    • I have made positive changes in my life
  • Seventy-seven percent of students who sought counseling Spring, 2007 endorsed strongly agree or agree to “I am more likely to continue my education at SIUC as a result of my interactions with the Counseling Center”.
  • SIUC students who receive counseling services have a 25 % higher retention and graduation rate than students who did not seek counseling services.
  • Student’s can walk into the SIUC Counseling Center Monday – Friday, 8 am to 5 pm and see a counselor immediately without an appointment
