International Programs and Services

Points of Pride:

  • SIUC has 1400 international students from 108 countries and has been in the top 100 in the U.S. in international student enrollment for three decades. The first degree-seeking international student arrived in 1947.
  • SIUC sends 300 American students to overseas Study Abroad locations each year, at 250 sites in 49 countries.
  • SIUC has linkage agreements with 137 institutions in 55 countries.
  • For over twenty years, the International Network for Global Educational Activities in Rural Schools (INGEAR) has promoted cultural awareness throughout southern Illinois, sending nearly 2000 SIUC international students into local communities and reaching over 80,000 school children.

Did you know:

  • A total of 258 new international students arrived in Carbondale for the Fall 2007 semester.
  • During FY 08, IPS staff members will be recruiting in Korea, China, Mexico, Bangladesh and India.
  • Six new Study Abroad programs have been created during the past year (Italy, Brazil, Ecuador, Morocco, China, and India)
  • Campus/City relationships still exist with the City of Nakajo, despite the closure of the branch campus after 18 years of operation. Educational/Governmental delegations arrive each fall semester, touring the campus, Carbondale and southern Illinois for one week.
  • SIUC has signed a record number of new linkage agreements with universities in Brazil, Chile, Taiwan (3 separate agreements) and Thailand.
