Student Development
Points of Pride:
- There are over 400 Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) at SIUC!
- The Student Development leadership symposium, “What I Want You to Know” received the NASPA Region IV-East Innovative Program Award and went on to receive national recognition as the NASPA Outstanding Diversity Program.
- Multicultural Programming: In 2006-2007, ninety-six percent (96%) of the students attending the MPS event and completing the surveys/focus groups answered “Yes” to the question “Did the program enhance your understanding of a different culture?”
- In 2007, the Inter-Greek Council celebrated 60 years of the Theta Xi Variety Show and Greek Sing
- The SIUC-Women’s Center Partnership won the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Award for outstanding campus community partnership in the state of Illinois. Student Development received $7500 to strengthen volunteerism and civic programs for students.
Did You Know:
- Six hundred plus individuals attended this year’s Noche de Gala-Salsa Night event which is held annually as part of Latino Heritage Month at SIUC
- Did you know . . . over 100 registered student organizations (RSOs) participate every semester in the Student Development RSO & Community Involvement Fair, providing information and opportunities to get involved to the hundreds of students attending.
- Diversity Programming is a group effort. In partnership with MPS, eleven different organizations assisted in the planning and sponsoring of the Latino Heritage Month. Fourteen different organizations assisted in the planning and sponsoring of the GLBT History Month.
- SIUC Greek freshmen consistently make higher GPAs than non-Greek freshmen do.
- SIUC Greeks do 11 times more community & university service hours than non-Greeks do.
- Between August 2006 to July 2007, 5,100 SIUC students participated in the Saluki Volunteer Corps, contributing more than 34,372 hours of service.
- Students involved as organization leaders are more likely to experience academic success than their peers who are not involved as leaders.
