Supplemental Instruction
Points of Pride:
- Since its inception in 2001, SI has served over 5629 (unduplicated headcount) students through peer-assisted study sessions.
- Over one thousand students (1193) have participated in SI for two or more classes – we like repeat customers!
- Not only does SI help students earn higher grades on average, but it also helps students persist. The first-to-second year retention rates for SI participants ranges from 87-92% for the first five years of the program.
Did you Know:
- The SIUC SI training program was recently accredited by the College Reading and Learning Association. Certification is granted to SI leaders who complete the rigorous curriculum that emphasizes epistemology, group dynamics, study skills, logistics and diversity.
- SI leaders are encouraged to grow professionally by completing advanced trainings in academic coaching and/or peer supervision. TO complete this training, SI leaders enroll in EAHE 402 courses and complete 25 hours of practical training.
- SI emphasizes “how to learn” along with “what to learn” so that students are equipped to become independent learners in a variety of courses.
