What is Student Voice?
To accomplish most of the steps within our Assessment Cycle, the Division of Student Affairs has contracted with Student Voice , a third party vendor that provides the technology to:
- administer either web-based or hand-held PDA surveys,
- analyze results, with bar charts, simple descriptive statistics, and capabilities to cross-tab and filter specific questions/answers
- participate in national benchmarking projects,
- report on strategic initiatives, such as Southern at 150, or the Quality of Student Life criteria
Student Voice is the platform of choice for over 400 campuses of all sizes across the country. This company is adding a variety of new features that will support a campus-wide assessment effort. For example:
- the PDA technology will soon be changing to the Apple platform, and our Palm Pilots (which students do not use and are not familiar with) will be exchanged for devices similar to iPhones.
- Inclusion of course/faculty evaluations, program reviews, SIS data, grades, participation records, and retention data can be downloaded and used to track student progress or evaluate certain courses/programs
- Student participation in RSO’s, on-campus programs, etc can be tracked to give us a co-curricular transcript as defined by our staff
- Early warning/alert system for advisors to track student behaviors.
