Vocabulary
1.Assessment - a systematic practice of inquiry that informs our decision-making
2.“Dashboard indicators” or “DBI’s” - quantities that reflect the status of an organization; i.e. number of students served; number of office visits; rank services used, etc.
3.Learning outcomes – what are the intended changes in attitude, behavior, skills or knowledge among students who participate in the program/service
4.Needs assessment - a method to ascertain the perceived lack of service; also may be seen as a method to inform clients of services they may not know about
5.Qualitative - focus groups, case studies, interviews, ethnographies; methodologies that rely upon the researcher’s skill and/or relationship with respondents to elicit data
6.Quantitative - survey results; dashboard indicators; relying upon numerical or statistical methods to objectively measure usage, perceptions or impact
7.Satisfaction survey - soliciting feedback regarding a person’s perception of usefulness of or satisfaction with the service or program
8.Unobtrusive measures - accessing data through means other than asking students outright (gpas, headcounts, etc)
